- The work concerned is an ambitious extended monograph of some 115,000 words plus footnotes in a field of immense scholarly and public interest, namely ethnic diversity. Archival research was conducted over a period of twelve years, consulting thousands of primary sources, producing the only general history of ethnic minorities in Welsh-speaking Wales, and the first general history of minorities in Wales in either language group. The volume breaks new ground theoretically by interrogating metropolitan multiculturalism via close textual readings of ethnic minority experiences within a non-hegemonic language group in different historical contexts, creating a complex theory of ‘minority hybridity’.
