- The research presented in the paper highlights the energy generation and consumption trends of a developing country (Botswana). The paper presents significant information that highlights the need for documentation of developing countries' energy loads coupled with the accurate estimation of energy requirements, which will aid in estimating/predicting the required generation capacity of existing and potential energy sources. Since the publication of the paper different researchers in and away from Southern Africa have identified the need to develop an understanding of the energy trends of developing countries. This also led to the application and award of innovate UK grant SwanaSmartStore (https://swanasmartstore.kingston.ac.uk/publications.html).
