- Double-weighted statement
- This book is the fruit of over 10 years of research, focused and intensified in the 3 years prior to publication, involving multiple interpretative readings of Proust’s long-form novel A la recherche du temps perdu, close readings of selected passages, and substantial research into a number of theoretical frameworks bearing upon the cinematographic motifs of the novel, including research into the pre-history of cinema, 20th-century film theory, theories of history and temporality, and psychoanalytic theories of subjectivity. The book develops a series of interlocking and multi-layered arguments for the insight that Proust’s novel provides an alternative ‘theory of film’.
