- The paper presents a new astronomically tuned age model for the Santonian Stage 86.3 – 83.6 million years ago, and the first unambiguous correlation between Boreal and Tethyan biostratigraphic schemes - a significant advance for constraining the timing of geological events in the Late Cretaceous and determining rates of geological processes. The paper was instrumental in the award of 2,915,000 DKK (£353k) by the Carlsberg foundation to Thibault, Jarvis et al. for a project on Orbital climate change and environmental perturbations in the Late Cretaceous: https://www.carlsbergfondet.dk/en/Forskningsaktiviteter/Bevillingsstatistik/Bevillingsoversigt/CF16_0457_Nicolas-Rudolph-Thibault.
