- This special issue was proposed, introduced, and edited by Baumgarten and Dubois (50/50 split). It includes the contributions to a collaborative workshop on the topic of linguistic discrimination held in October 2018 at the University of Sheffield (funded by the British Academy) as well as additional contributions selected from a competitive call for papers. The special issue presents studies of linguistic discrimination in the UK and in Germany. It stands out in particular for its description of methodological advances in linguistic research on unequal treatment in a variety of institutional settings. Baumgarten and Dubois wrote the introduction (70/30 split), organised the peer review process, and edited all articles (50/50). Baumgarten, Dubois and Gill (60/30/10 split) contributed the article “Patterns of Othering minority groups in telephone gatekeeping encounters in the Sheffield property market”. The latter is one outcome of the BA-funded project “Linguistic Profiling in the UK property market” (2017-2018).
