- We proposed a novel methodology for building ash deposition prediction models based on fundamental slagging mechanisms which is not restricted by furnace configurations. The paper was awarded Distinguished Paper by the Combustion Institute and has been used by the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) from the US leading to a slagging predictor developed based on this work being implemented across their US power utility fleet for fuel selections. It "is the most reliable 1st order prediction currently available" said the Technical Leader at EPRI. The research forms the bases of Sheffield contribution to the further EPSRC grant (EP/M015351/1).
