- This book is the result of research undertaken over 15 years in the areas of civil society, new social movements, political communications and digital media. This work has been variously funded by the Leverhulme Trust, The Media Trust, The British Academy, Carnegie Trust and Freedom House. It brings together an argument that developed over a period of time in considerable depth from different perspectives including political economy, media sociology, cultural studies, social movement studies and political communications to address the issues and possibilities for political transformation in the digital age.
