- Double-weighted statement
- This 230 page book, arising from research from 2002-12, is one of the very few serious academic monographs published on the Hellenistic East in the last century, and revolutionizes the field. It is interdisciplinary, drawing on archaeology and texts in several languages (Aramaic, Bactrian, Greek and Prakrit) and applying innovative perspectives from social theory. The sources are complex, because owing to the war in Afghanistan most archaeological sites there were never fully investigated or published, and access to sites and archives remains difficult. In addition, important but unprovenanced material emerged onto the antiquities market only in the early 2000s.
