- This 338-page book is the principal output of a major five-year project, with two main components. First, an original dataset of electoral system changes across 31 countries and 65 years (1945–2009) was compiled, often by going back to and coding legal texts in original languages. Second, qualitative process tracing was conducted of episodes of reform in all 31 countries, drawing on official records, party documents, media reporting, scholarly literature, and other sources in 24 languages. Through this huge data collection exercise, the book, according to one review, makes ‘major (and definitive) contributions in our understanding of electoral law personalization’.
