- This work establishes the use of morpholine for low energy processing of cellulose. This paper is significant because it earned the main author a prize for PhD student papers published in that year. This was a reflection of the significant contribution the work has made to reducing energy costs in industrial scale cellulose processing. The work was done for a client Sappi, the technology was patented and the data informed a full scale production facility in Maastricht which opened in 2017.
