- This commentary presents research carried out over many years on the entire epic and on Roman epic more broadly. Although notes and introduction have to be fairly concise in this format in line with the requirements of the Cambridge series, they are informed by this research and thus provide many new insights and nuanced interpretations suitable for specialist readers. Thus, this commentary will not only be suitable for teaching, but also form an indispensable tool for further scholarly study, especially as it is the first commentary (in any language) specifically on Book 3 of the epic.
