- Anticolonial Afterlives in Egypt is built on extensive research in the Middle East, primarily archival and qualitative, conducted over a period of three years, two of which were during Salem’s PhD. Primary and secondary sources were collected in three languages: Arabic, English and French, spanning 100 years of Egyptian history. The combined research and writing period was five years. The work engages with theoretical debates requiring an extended study of theoretical materials in the Middle East and elsewhere, in both Arabic and English, as well as empirical data ranging from interviews to economic data.
