This paper presents a novel framework for reliability assessment of hybrid advanced treatment units (ATUs) for wastewater reuse based on analytical methods of event tree analysis (ETA) and fault tree analysis (FTA) with fuzzy logic techniques. 36 case studies were used to provide data required for the analysis and demonstration of the framework on real-world industrial wastewater treatment plants in the Middle East. The approach was then taken to underpin an international research project about urban water reuse intervention strategies funded by RAE, led by the UK author and participated by partners from Asian, Africa and America https://www.raeng.org.uk/global/sustainable-development/frontiers/frontiers-of-engineering-for-development/seed-funding/current-and-recent-awards
