- This paper provides for the first time a set of design rules for parts manufactured using Wire+Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM). It has been applied to manufacture WAAM parts for industry-funded research projects through the WAAMmat programme (www.waammat.com) with Bombardier Aerospace, Aircraft Research Association, BAE SYSTEMS and others. The paper has contributed to the development of the ASTM International “Additive Manufacturing – Technical Design Guideline for Directed Energy Deposition” and Dr Lockett is one of the authors in ASTM committee F42 developing this new standard.
