- For over half a century, exploitation of Peru’s largest oil reserve located in indigenous territories in the Amazon region has generated profound socio-environmental impacts. Drawing on government archives, scientific papers, technical reports, and interviews with key stakeholders, including indigenous representatives, the book reveals and analyses the repeated failure of successive corporations to act responsibility and the persistent absence of State protection for the rights of the Quechua and Achuar peoples. It concludes that this combination of corporate irresponsibility and State absence has not only caused extensive and irreparable environment harm but has triggered and perpetuated health emergencies and social conflict.
