- Double-weighted statement
- This edited volume (106,000 words, 348 pages) is the first book to study the entire filmography of one of Spain's most important filmmakers, Bigas Luna (1946-2013), from his feature debut in 1976 until his second posthumous film in 2016. The volume examines the films one by one, bringing together the expertise of 12 well-established international specialists. This volume is the culmination of over six years of collaboration between Fouz Hernandez and other Bigas Luna scholars around the world. It breaks new ground on aspects that transcend its immediate field, including Ecocinema, food studies, religious cinema or Star Studies.

- The project started with a conference panel at the Society for Cinema and Media Studies in Seattle in 2014 that led to a special journal issue edited by Fouz Hernandez in 2016. The book was then carefully shaped over a three-year period with the aim of producing a detailed history of Bigas Luna's filmography. It pays special attention to the evolution of the films' aesthetics and the relevance of the evolving socio-historical contexts surrounding their creation. Fouz selected contributors on the basis of expertise that would be particularly illuminating for the readings of specific films. He then sought to create a sense of cohesion between chapters, identifying potential links between them and encouraging authors to write about specific running themes, such as the idea of legacy, identities (national, gender, sexual) or recurring visual motifs. This resulted in numerous cross-references between chapters that enhance the volume's cohesiveness and sense of common purpose very considerably, making it a valuable resource either to study specific films in depth, or Bigas Luna's filmography as a whole. Fouz contributes two chapters and an introduction. The lengthy introductory chapter offers an overview of the films of Bigas Luna, highlighting key areas of interest and guiding the reader through the book's main thematic and theoretical concerns. These, in turn, are presented as alternative structuring points for those seeking to learn about specific issues. In the concluding chapter, in addition to discussing the two posthumous films of Bigas Luna in depth, Fouz summarises the main research questions and answers of the book, revealing surprising links between Bigas Luna's early obsession with sex and the flesh and later emphasis on organic food, the planet or Mediterranean cultures.
