- Funded by Science and Technology Funding Council (STFC) (ST/K00926/1, ST/N000706/1); European Space Agency (ESA) (501100000844 No.4000106146) and UCL Impact Scheme, this paper presents a successful output from the funding which shows for the first time that it is technically possible to produce a lens capable of separating the two linear polarisation components on the focal plane, thus allowing a compact polarimetric detecting unit. This will revolutionise astronomical instrumentation allowing for much smaller and better controlled splitters.
