- The first academic study based on extensive archival research to appraise and contextually define in relation to industry policy and the socio-cultural moment, the 'new wave' of British horror films initiated in 2000. It addresses over 15 years of film-making practice, acknowledging policy shifts and creative impetus behind British horror films, from successful international Blockbusters directed by critically-acclaimed auteurs, to micro-budget independent features by amateurs. It sheds light on film-making practices hitherto ignored by the academy, advancing a field which has primarily focused on British horror films of the 1950s- 70s – drawing from a corpus of almost 500 films.
