- This paper focuses on developing an irreversible airbag pre-triggering system designed to detect potential collisions and to trigger safety actuators even before an accident occurs. In this context, the analysis examines the information that can be collected from exteroceptive sensors to predict a certain collision and its severity to decide whether a triggering is entitled or not. This system is to be implemented as part of the frontal airbag system within the Volkswagen motors group, in particular, Audi's future Highly Automated Vehicles (HAV). Such system will significantly reduce driver’s fatalities, serious injuries and save peoples lives.
