- This monograph is based on interdisciplinary engagement with the New Institutionalism theory in political science and ancient Greek sources about Athenian ideology. It is the result of four years of doctoral research and a further year of intense reworking, which involved substantial restructuring and refocusing of the manuscript as well as the inclusion of a new chapter. It employs a wide and diverse body of evidence, ranging from oratory, historiography and tragedy to epigraphic, iconographic and archaeological evidence, and often required interpretation of complex, fragmentary or poorly preserved sources.
