- This is a 244 page (105,000 word) long-form output, comprising 6 long chapters with introduction and afterword. Engaging with a wealth of primary, secondary and theoretical sources, the book draws upon substantial archival research undertaken at the National Army Museum, Hampshire Record Office, National Archives, Bristol University Theatre Collection, Imperial War Museum and The Royal Archives, as well as private collections shared by descendants. The project is interdisciplinary using approaches from English Literature, military and social history, history of art, gender studies and the history of emotion.
