- This first in-depth history of women’s employment in the Civil Service and the London County Council derives from nearly a decade’s worth of in-depth archival research at The National Archives, The Women’s Library at LSE, The Postal Museum, the Modern Records Centre, the London Metropolitan Archives and the Imperial War Museum, as well as extensive use of published primary documents at the British Library. Moreover, the book engages in detail and widely with work in several distinct disciplines and sub-fields – including history, women’s history, sociology, trade union studies and employer relations.
