- The significance of the paper lies in its combination of computer ethics, information systems and responsible research and innovation. It introduces the key research governance concept of responsible research and innovation into the mainstream IS discourse. The paper, published in a QI journal, is an important part in an ongoing programme of research surrounding research governance in ICT, in particular smart information systems. It provides the conceptual basis of the €2.8m EU project SHERPA which is coordinated by the first author.
