- The three editors each had primary editorial responsibility for one part of the book. Timmers was responsible for the six chapters of Part 2 on expressiveness across styles and cultures, which made a key contribution to the book in bringing a cross-cultural perspective. As this book was commissioned from scratch, Timmers was responsible for inviting authors, working with them on the chapter plan, and reviewing drafts. She further designed and conducted the research for one of the chapters of Part 3, and she edited and reviewed the two chapters written by the other editors. The order of the editors reflects a modest degree of relative contribution: Dorottya Fabian initiated the idea of publishing a book on expressiveness in music performance jointly with Renee Timmers. Emery Schubert was added as third editor for his computational expertise. The three editors wrote the book proposal together, edited the book jointly and wrote introductory and concluding chapters to frame the book. The layout, list of contributors and scope of the book was defined collaboratively.
