- The Emotional Politics of the Alternative Left: West Germany, 1968-1984 is the result of an extended period of research (2011-2017) that involved accessing archives in various German and Swiss cities, including Berlin (multiple archives), Freiburg, and Zurich. It presents a complex investigation into emotional discourses and practices from a variety of perspectives and engaging with theoretical work on the history of emotions. The complexity of the material, which included oral history interviews, magazine articles, children’s books, and other archival material, required close (and time consuming) reading and reflection to develop arguments.
