- The first systematic study of L’Estoile’s manuscripts, the book is 110,000 words in length. Research for the book included twelve months of archival research in France over a five-year period. The archival research involved record-linking materials in challenging cursive scripts and poorly catalogued document series in nine libraries and archives in France, Switerland, and the UK. Its references include 151 boxes of documents in the Archives Nationales de France and 32 manuscripts from the Bibliothèque nationale de France. The book situates its archival findings in dialogue with printed primary and secondary sources in several languages.
