- Double-weighted statement
- This monograph emerged from an intensive research project of over four years. It has used a very large body of primary and secondary texts to produce a complex, nuanced contribution to the study of state-formation in early modern Europe. The book is moreover focused on a key overarching theme – centre-periphery relations – which it engaged with at length and in-depth, bringing in a range of evidence-types (administrative, legal, cultural, and ecclesiastical), many of them available only in manuscript form, and making use of cross-disciplinary perspectives, especially those emerging from sociology.
