- The glacial records from the Mediterranean now boast some of the most robust chronologies for mountain glaciation anywhere in the world - they are one of the clearest expressions of Quaternary climate change between the Alps and the Sahara. Quaternary Glaciation in the Mediterranean Mountains is a Geological Society Special Publication containing 13 research papers from Spain to Turkey from leading international researchers. The Editors (P.Hughes and Woodward) contributed three papers and an extended synthesis that set the research agenda for the following decade. Pioneer of Quaternary Mediterranean glaciation research, Bruno Messerli (1931-2019), penned the foreword to this landmark volume.
We submit the following chapters of P. D. Hughes and J. C. Woodward’s (2016) open access, edited book Quaternary glaciation in the Mediterranean mountains: a new synthesis, Geological Society, London, Special Publications. All the chapters are authored by P. Hughes, some with J. Woodward. They are: (1) HUGHES, P. D. & WOODWARD, J. C. Quaternary glaciation in the Mediterranean mountains: a new Synthesis (p1-24); (2) HANNAH, G., HUGHES, P. D. & GIBBARD, P. L. Pleistocene plateau ice fields in the High Atlas, Morocco (p25-54); (3) ADAMSON, K. R., WOODWARD, J. C., HUGHES, P. D., GIGLIO, F. & DEL BIANCO, F. Middle Pleistocene glaciation, alluvial fan development and sea-level changes in the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro (p193-210) and (4) POPE, R. J., HUGHES, P. D. & SKOURTSOS, E. Glacial history of Mt Chelmos, Peloponnesus, Greece (p.211-236).
