- The edited collection Performing Architectures aims to articulate the multiple points of exchange between performance and architecture and to further the emerging conversation between these disciplines. The idea for the publication arose in 2015 from conversations between Filmer and Rufford in their shared role as co-convenors of the Theatre Architecture Working Group of the International Federation for Theatre Research. The tri-partite structure of the publication was jointly conceived by Filmer and Rufford as a means of articulating the key areas of research and creative practice.
Filmer contributed a chapter and conducted an interview with Robert Wilson, and wrote the first draft of the introduction. Filmer also approached Turner and Pearson with the idea of a jointly authored chapter reflecting on Pearson’s collaboration with Clifford McLucas. Filmer was lead editor on the chapters by Hannah, Lima, Horemans & Stam, Turner & Pearson, and Rewa. Filmer oversaw the selection of images and image corrections and permissions. Rufford was lead editor on van den Berg, Burte, Roberts, Schweder and Weinstein.
