- This paper presents a novel bottom-up model to estimate future energy demand and GHG emissions of China's road transport, for the first time, at a provincial level. Detailed technical characteristics of vehicle fleets are analysed in several future scenarios considering provincial economic development, population dynamics and policies. Findings from the paper have been used in China's 'Fourth National Assessment Report on Climate Change', a crucial document that provides evidence for national policy makers to design better climate policies in China and contributed to China's pledge to reach carbon neutrality in 2060.
