- In this paper, a new Robust and Artefact Resistant (RAR) algorithm for early breast cancer detection is introduced to overcome the adverse effects from artefact and glandular tissues. Extensive analyses using 3D anatomically and dielectrically accurate numerical breast models were conducted. Results showed superior tumour identification, accurate localization, and strong artefact resistance. Simulated tumours in both homogeneous and heterogonous, from mildly to moderately dense breast phantoms were successfully identified and localized. These results showed the strong potential of RAR for breast cancer screening and led to further practical developments in a comprehensive PhD thesis commended by external examiners and citations.
