- Examining the changing character of German nationalism and national identity in its broader Central European context, this book is based on a UCL Ph,D. Vermeiren also received grants from the Modern Humanities Research Association, the Department of History at Esssex and from UEA. It showcases a vast range of German print sources and archival records primarily from Berlin. Questioning established notions about the dynamic relationship between war and society, the study is an important corrective to works of intellectual and cultural history.
