- The need for a volume synthesising different approaches to, and studies of, medieval childhood was first identified by Hadley and Hemer whilst collaborating on a paper, which they published together in 2011. Subsequently, a decision was made to produce a volume containing papers on the latest work undertaken by researchers active in the field of the archaeology of childhood. They decided to place a particular focus on the medieval period in order to draw directly on their time-period expertise. Hadley took responsibility for putting the collection together and identified suitable contributors. Both authors conducted research for, and wrote sections of, the Introduction (pp. 1-25) to the volume, whilst Hemer also contributed an original chapter (pp. 131-144) to the collection which draws on her research applying stable isotope analysis to the study of past population mobility. Both Hadley and Hemer were responsible for editing each contributors’ submission and preparing the contributions for the publisher. They both also addressed any subsequent queries and edits from the editor in preparation for publication.
