- Double-weighted statement
- This monograph is the culmination of a programme of scholarship in the field of linguistic variation and change, pursued by the author for some twenty years, and thus demonstrates sustained research effort on the part of the submitting author. This effort has entailed sustained engagement with both primary materials, including large datasets, and with a range of disciplines, including not only English historical linguistics but also (e.g.) computational studies. The outcome of this effort is the generation of a complex piece of research, which presents the investigation of the topic in considerable depth.
