- This Italian-language article provides the first-ever overview -- based on autopsy – of classical and early-Hellenistic Thracian tombs in Bulgaria. It is enhanced by many illustrations hitherto unpublished. The imagery in the tombs is analysed with regard to their blending of local and foreign motifs. The findings are contextualised both within the broader context of Thracian culture from the Bulgarian region (so far as it is known) and within the history of the wider Mediterranean and Black Sea areas. The paper expands into a still under-researched area the evidence-base for our understanding of an emerging Hellenistic koine in art.
