- The book is the outcome of a sustained two-year Leverhulme Trust Research Project, 2012-433, 'A Membership Study of the Democratic Unionist Party' - (PI, Tonge). The book draws upon complex, difficult to access primary sources, is the first membership study of the party, and uses an extensive range (over 100) of interviews, including its current and previous leader. The book won the Political Studies Association of Ireland Book of the Year prize. As such, it provides critical insights of considerable depth into the religious, political and demographic composition of a party which has long fused religious, political and cultural outlooks.
