- This paper reports the discovery of liquid crystal phases for a new class of nanoscale material known as MXene. It reports for the first time production of pure MXene fibres with no additives. With an electrical conductivity approaching that of steel and the highest volumetric capacitance reported on fibres, MXene fibres enable flexible and textile-based devices. This work is the result of a collaboration between universities in USA and Australia and received funding from the US Department of Energy and Australian Research Council. It is featured as front cover of the journal and highlighted in a “First Reactions” paper.
