- This longer form monograph (c.70 000 words) offers an in depth study of identity in the western provinces of Rome’s empire. It employs the concept of social practice drawn from a range of related disciplines, in particular sociology, gender studies, archaeology and anthropology. Consideration of multiple aspects of identity rather than a single one required researching and engaging with a diverse literature. This was then applied to case-studies drawn from a wide geographical range, involving close-analysis of the evidence and the production of new interpretations.
