- For the first time, this paper reported a new pore-scale mechanism that controls fluid flow in pores of carbonate rocks, at microscopic scale. The findings are significant for managing (design and modelling) subsurface water and hydrocarbon reserves. The paper is an outcome of Pak’s PhD which was part of a UK/Brazil research alliance. The research was also presented at the 7th International Conference on Porous Media (Interpore2015). This paper led to Pak’s first research grant awarded by the Royal Academy of Engineering (NRCP1516/1/159) in 2015.
