- This single-authored monograph (250pp) offers a new interpretation of the nature of urbanization in '20th century' China through a focus on a city that has not received very much scholarly attention in English. It is the product of some 10 years' research. It uses primary and secondary sources in Chinese, Japanese and English from across 4 archives in China and Taiwan, and libraries there and in the USA and UK.
