- ‘Whispers’ is an output consisting of an installation created by Ian Evans for the exhibition ‘Desenhos de Cena #1’ in São Paulo, for which he was also asked to be technical director for the entire exhibition. The installation focussed on his love of music, represented by a piece he had first sketched for classical guitar nearly thirty years ago, and a commitment to internationalism that has defined his career, represented here by the recorded voices of other artists at the exhibition. Most importantly, his innovative use of transducers for this installation, driven by his experiments that had shown how to turn any resonant material into a loudspeaker, led to his making further developments in their implementation which allow directors, set designers, costume designers and others to introduce audio into their work. Evans was invited by World Stage Design 2017 to develop the ideas first explored in ‘Whispers’ into a three-day workshop on the use of transducers at the Taipei National University of the Arts.
The submitted pdf file includes a link to the exhibition website, as well as photographs documenting the work, and a description of the research process.
