- This monograph represents a sustained research effort, involving multiple study components, and collaboration with partners and data collection in multiple countries. Emma Pitchforth, lead author, was co-investigator, was involved in the conception of the study and in all stages through the synthesis and reporting. She also managed the study. This first international, comparative study of community hospitals involved data generation and synthesis of primary and secondary data. The insights generated required careful analysis of community hospitals in varying health systems contexts, and from micro-, meso- and macro- level perspectives to appropriately draw learning for the NHS in England, and elsewhere.
