- English abstract
- Implicitly taking a contextual approach, this article investigates the different ways in which, on one hand, England and Wales, and, on the other hand, Scotland have implemented the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC. In particular, it focuses on two issues: first, the extent to which these UK nations have made use of the permissible exemptions from the Directive’s environmental objective of achieving ‘good water status’ by 2015; and second, the permissible postponement of the 2015 deadline. The paper concludes that Scotland engaged with the environmental objective significantly more seriously than both England and Wales did.
