- Additional information
- For the first time, this paper demonstrated the effect of optimising the stiffness of cushioning materials based on patient weight in the design of therapeutic footwear and orthoses. This paper was awarded the “Editor’s choice award” for the best publication in the Annals of Biomedical Engineering, 2017 (the official journal of the Biomedical Engineering Society). The results of this work, which was funded by the European Commission (DiaBSmart-FP7-PEOPLE-2011-IAPP), led to further seminal studies leading to clinical validation (Chatzistergos et al, 2020; Gait and Posture). The results were covered in global media including MedicalXpress and Since Newsline.
