- Double-weighted statement
- The monograph is based on extensive archival research, including research visits to archives in the UK and United States (UCLA Film and Television Archive, US National Archives, Margaret Herrick Library, UCSD Special Collections, Library of Congress, BFI) in addition to laborious trawls through undigitised trade papers including American Cinematographer and the Journal of the SMPTE. In addition to paper research the book’s preparation required extensive research viewing of films and television programming. The monograph’s broad historical focus (pre-1895—2017) also required an extended period of writing and revision over a number of years.
