- This monograph demonstrates sustained research effort. It is an extended, in-depth study of immigration and how concern about is connected to perceptions of national identity. It exhaustively reviews the substantial existing scholarship and then applies advanced quantitative techniques to examine the connection between national identities, concern about immigration and perceptions of political systems. It analyses a large body of public opinion data, including the European Social Survey, Eurobarometer, International Social Survey Programme data and British Election Study surveys. Its sustained and rigorous analysis shows how immigration has had direct and unappreciated impact on perceptions of national political systems in Europe.
