- Double-weighted statement
- This 430-page book is the product of more than 20 years of research by the author. There is a full introduction to the genre of the còmhradh, as well as seven shorter introductions to thematic sections; editions of 35 texts (selected from a corpus of over 300 similar texts studied by the author in preparation); each with notes; and a glossary of rarer words and specific usages.

- Additional information
- The introduction to this scholarly edition grew out of an article published in 2001 (journal-date is 2000) and submitted to RAE2008 (http://eprints.gla.ac.uk/4585/ ). While there is some overlap in terms of the overview of the còmhradh genre and its purposes, the introduction to the volume submitted here presents a very substantially extended and revised discussion from 2001 (64pp v 20pp), including consideration of stylistic features, reception and legacy which did not feature in the earlier publication. Beyond the introduction, the book itself presents 35 edited dialogues, selected from a corpus of over 300 texts, and overlap does not apply here. Although this item is described as an “edited book”, it is in fact a scholarly edition with considerable authorial content: a lengthy introduction giving an overview of the genre of the Gaelic prose dialogue, its evolution and importance; shorter introductions to each thematic section; and historical and contextual notes for each of the dialogues edited. The research process for the book also involved selection and editing from a much larger corpus of potential dialogues for inclusion; provision of a glossary; and a thorough and clearly described editorial process of orthographical adjustment.
