- The paper explored advanced spectral analysis tools to examine fluctuations of environmental time series that display non-linearity, distortion and missing data. Classical tools such as Fourier analysis and Wavelets are inefficient in this case. The proposed method adapts a Lomb–Scargle algorithm which was successful even when the limitation of missing data is increased from 30% (benchmark) to 50%. The study provided better explanation of some physical phenomena that occurred such as storms, floods and blooms.
