- This 80,000 word monograph charts the transformation of the British Army of the Rhine (BAOR) from occupier to ally of West Germany between 1945 and 1957. It examines the multifaceted relationship between troops and civilians as well as considering Anglo-German political relations in the early Cold War period and British media representations of Germany. It also considers German perceptions of the BAOR, ranging from national and local government to the media. The book is the result of five years of archival research in ten (both British and German) national and local government archives, regimental museums, and press archives.
