- This 220 page monograph presents an application of the multilayered securitization framework to the development of the European Union’s asylum and migration policies. It offers an in-depth account of securitization theory, exploring its multi-dimensional impacts from diverse perspectives. The research provides critical analysis based upon extended data collection over time including difficult to access sources, including EU and UK parliamentary papers, NGO documentation and elite, key-informant interviews. The book makes the novel argument that, contrary to widespread perception, it was only after the terrorist attacks of 2015/16 that attempts at socially constructing asylum-seekers as security threats became successful in Europe.
